Trilateral Research's CEO Kush Wadhwa highlighted the critical importance of responsible AI investment in a wide-ranging interview with global communications consultancy Hotwire, published today here. The discussion explored how organisations can successfully implement ethical AI solutions while building public trust and driving innovation.
The Investment Gap in Responsible AI
The disparity between organisations building AI and those investing in responsible AI implementation has become increasingly apparent. Recent research from MIT Sloan Management Review highlighted this gap, showing that while many companies are rapidly adopting AI technology, few are making the necessary investments in safety and ethics.
On the impact of responsible AI investment, Kush Wadhwa, CEO of Trilateral Research, commented:
"70% of those who did invest in responsible AI, and used mature AI systems, saw better outcomes and increased efficiencies. We've seen this first hand. In one of our applications, CESIUM, which helps police, local authorities, and the NHS with safeguarding, we achieved a 400% capacity uplift."
Addressing Implementation Challenges
The transition from theoretical frameworks to practical implementation remains one of the most significant hurdles in responsible AI adoption. While major international bodies have established guiding principles, organisations often struggle with translating these into actionable strategies.
On the challenges of implementing responsible AI principles, Wadhwa explained:
"The biggest challenge is figuring out how to put responsible AI principles into practice. That's where the industry is struggling right now. We believe the solution is to use a multidisciplinary team. This means bringing together legal experts, domain experts, ethicists, and tech people to work together."
The Importance of Cybersecurity
As organisations accelerate their AI adoption, the relationship between ethical AI implementation and robust cybersecurity has become increasingly crucial. This connection forms a fundamental part of Trilateral's approach to responsible AI development.
On the relationship between ethical AI and cybersecurity, Wadhwa said:
"Put simply, ethical AI is about doing the right things with AI, and cybersecurity ensures those systems are secure enough to uphold those principles. Together, they create AI that we can trust and rely on, without inherent risk."
