Last week, Trilateral Research's CEO Kush Wadhwa delivered a powerful address to an enthusiastic and engaged group of young people at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, urging the next generation to take a leading role in shaping the future of artificial intelligence (AI) with responsibility, ethics, and purpose.
The United Nations International School (UNIS) event, ‘Beyond the Algorithm: Navigating the Future’, brought together more than 700 students from over 100 countries to engage them on global challenges and equip them with the insights and skills needed to navigate a rapidly evolving technological landscape. Wadhwa explored the real-world potential of AI to drive positive change across society - from protecting vulnerable children and supporting public health, to mitigating climate impacts and democratising AI-powered education. His message was clear: the future of AI is not pre-determined. It will be defined by the choices we make today, and the leadership young people are already beginning to show.
“The AI Age is here, and it’s not just a technical revolution - it’s a societal one,” said Wadhwa. “The students I spoke to at UNIS are not only curious and capable, they are ready to take the lead. They understand that AI must be built on foundations of ethics, human rights, and accountability. And that gives me hope.”
Wadhwa challenged students to think beyond their roles as users of AI and to see themselves as future builders and masters of AI, while also serving as protectors of fundamental human rights. He encouraged interdisciplinary thinking, explaining that ethical and responsible AI design is only possible through collaboration between technologists, social scientists, ethicists, domain experts, policymakers, and communities.
At Trilateral, this ethos is central to the development of AI solutions across areas such as child safeguarding, air quality monitoring, and human security. The company’s work illustrates how ethics, when embedded from the outset, can not only result in more effective AI with better outcomes, but can also make AI a powerful tool for public good.
Wadhwa’s full presentation can be viewed on UN Web TV, at 1 hour 43 minutes. You can read his post-event insights on his LinkedIn page.
