The ENISA Cybersecurity Market Analysis Framework v2.0 (ECSMAF), drafted by Trilateral Research and ENISA, was published on 27 March 2023. The Report provides a step-by-step guide to aid market analysts to assess and document the goods, services, and competitive landscape of the cybersecurity sector.
The ECSMAF takes an interdisciplinary approach to support the assessment of the cybersecurity industry, which is often hindered by factors such as a lack of transparency, confidentiality, and internal competition. The Report includes guidelines to make cybersecurity-market analysis more transparent, comparable, comprehensive, and agile. The Framework comes at a time when rapidly evolving digital technologies leave organisations and individuals vulnerable to attacks and data breaches and takes important steps to shed light on the inner workings of the cybersecurity sector that has developed in response to these vulnerabilities.
“Charting the cybersecurity market is an ongoing challenge for researchers and practitioners. This updated Framework, which is the result of the work of Trilateral Research and ENISA under the auspices of an interdisciplinary group of experts, provides a methodology to better understand the cybersecurity sector and, hopefully, to maximise its benefits to society”, said David Wright, Trilateral’s Chief Research Officer and a co-author of the ECSMAF report.
The framework was published as part of Trilateral’s collaboration with ENISA, the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity. This publication updates an earlier version with results from surveys, pilot studies, and stakeholder feedback, and will be amended periodically to reflect market changes and trends. The work supports the EU’s Cybersecurity Act, which assigns ENISA the responsibility of performing and disseminating cybersecurity market analyses in support of the EU’s cybersecurity industry, as well as several other EU initiatives including the Digital Single Market.
