Today’s transport systems remain largely inaccessible for people living with disabilities. But how can we prioritise accessibility and inclusivity in transport systems to ensure equal mobility for all? Within the TRIPS project, Trilateral Research focuses on the experiences and needs of disabled people and develops policy recommendations to directly address their challenges in current urban transport systems.
Trilateral also works with end-users in a co-design approach to develop and deploy a Mobility Divide Index (MDI) that takes into account users’ requirements around mobility obstacles that need to be addressed in the development of an inclusive mobility solution. In order to ensure equal rights to mobility for all, addressing challenges with accessibility is the need of the hour.
We are, therefore, delighted to announce that on 20 May 2021 from 15:30 to 17:00 CEST, AAATE and the TRIPS project will be holding a webinar titled “Future of Transport: Addressing the Barriers through Innovative Solutions with the TRIPS Project” to discuss policy implications around accessible public transport, on account of Global Accessibility Awareness Day.
TRIPS project aims to take practical steps to address and pre-empt discrimination against disabled citizens and all those who experience barriers and challenges in using urban transport.
This webinar will address those barriers from a policy perspective, presenting the results of the project, reports from co-design workshops held and lessons learned.

Part I of the event focused on the end-user perspective and was held on 5 May on account of European Independent Living Day. During the meeting, project partners presented insights from a year of intense user research on barriers and user engagement in co-designing accessible mobility concepts. Partners and guest speakers also discussed a number of possible solutions to tackle these barriers ranging from a flying wheelchair that uses drone technology to fly at low altitudes and avoid traffic jams, to augmented reality travel planning and navigation apps.
