Ethical Impact Assessment

New technologies, projects, products, services, policies, and programs may raise not only privacy concerns but also other social and ethical issues. Among such issues are those relating to autonomy, dignity, informed consent, trust, asymmetries of power, fairness, and equity. Hence, there appears to be a need for an ethical impact assessment in the development of new technologies or any new project for that matter.

This entry describes and proposes the use of an ethical impact assessment (EIA) as a way to ensure ethical implications are adequately examined by stakeholders before the deployment of a new technology or project so that mitigating measures can be taken as necessary.
