Human Suffering and Migration Management: The Crisis at the Poland-Belarus Border Explained

Abstract

Human Trafficking is not just labour and sexual exploitation. It is not just a crime committed by individuals, but can be done so by states. The issue came to the forefront in late 2021, when, with the helping hand of President Lukashenko, thousands of people from the Middle East gathered at Belarus’ border with Poland hoping to enter the EU and, presumably, to claim asylum.

This blog shows how the acts done by the state of Belarus can also be understood as human trafficking.
