The GEARING Roles project is proud to invite you to our second annual conference 9 – 11 November  2020 online, hosted by Sabanci University in Istanbul. The conference theme this year is “Gender and Leadership in Higher Education and Research.”

Gender Equality Actions in Research Institutions to traNsform Gender ROLES (GEARING Roles project) is made of a multidisciplinary consortium of 10 European partners and focus on the design, implementation, and evaluation of Gender Equality Plans (GEPs) at six academic and research institutions. The project aims to challenge and transform gender roles and identities linked to career trajectories and work toward institutional change.

Gearing conference november

The conference will build on lessons learned thus far in the project, and explore new directions in current research on inclusion, leadership, and challenges. The conference is open to all, and will be host lively discussions among academics, policy-makers and students.

The conference begins the evening of Monday, 9 November with a keynote address by Mangala Subramaniam, Professor of Sociology and Butler Chair and Director of the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence.

Panel discussions will continue over the next two days. A Wikipedia ‘edit-a-thon’ will also be held on Tuesday for students at participating institutions to add content to the pages of women and LGBTI+ individuals, particularly in languages other than English.
