The BYTE project aimed assist European science and industry in capturing the potential benefits of big data and addressing the potential negative impacts. The overall goal was to provide direct and indirect support to industry stakeholders to enable them to gain a greater share of the big data market by 2020. BYTE accomplished this by conducting a series of big data case studies in actual big data practices across a range of disciplinary and industrial sectors to identify problems, opportunities and good practice solutions. The project produced policy and research recommendations, and are building a big data community to continue to ensure that responsible big data practices are prioritised by industry and policy-makers.
